What got you started in the furniture/design Business?

When I was younger I would re-arrange my room about once a week, and my mom suggested that I go to school for that. After she said that, it stuck with me and here I am.

Where have you worked during your career?

I have only been graduated (from East Carolina University) for one year, but I worked for Moon and Lola as an intern after graduation, and then I made the move down to Wilmington to work here at Custom Home.

Who are some of your favorite designers (and why?)

Growing up my favorite was always Tommy Bahama because of how coastal his entire line was.

What is your favorite design style/aesthetic?

My favorite style is the coastal look.  It always has been, and I do not see that changing.  I am a beach girl at heart, and anything that reminds me of it is a style I will love.

What is your most interesting room design or sale story?

My favorite room that I have worked on was the habitat event I helped Julie Glew with.  We decided to do a little boys room, and we had an amazing headboard made from shutters, and many other new and interesting designs.

What advice do you have for someone with a new home on a limited budget?

With a limited budget, shopping at places like habitat for humanity, and them give it all a little makeover, is going to be a cheaper route.  You can get ideas from magazines, or even HGTV.

What do you see trending?

The distressed look is going to be trending  for a while.

Feel free to email Turner with any design or furniture questions.

We look forward to sharing more of Julie’s design tips as well as introducing you to everyone else!
